Equality Insights is a flagship initiative of the International Women’s Development Agency to measure global poverty. It engaged Digital Thing to develop a new website for publishing research from its partners around the world and to serve as the online touchpoint for the initiative. The website needed to serve a global audience, including those in developing countries with poor internet speeds and those with accessibility needs. Digital Thing rolled out the custom-designed WordPress website and helped Equality Insights grow its user base and promote important research globally.

The Solution
The Equality Insights website was designed and developed by Digital Thing with WCAG 2.0 Accessibility standards (Level AA) compliance using a custom-built WordPress theme. Digital Thing redesigned the resource database, overhauling the existing user experience and making it simple to search and filter resources. The site was also built to load fast and ensure even those users with poor internet speeds would have a rich user experience.
To build its user base and global audience, Digital Thing promoted an email newsletter sign-up form integrated with Mail Chimp to automate data capture and communications. The design also made it simple to integrate third-party data visualisations from Equality Insights research partners around the world.
Outcome
The new Equality Insights website proved far more effective at engaging and retaining visitors, driving a significant increase in ‘average time on site’ and a substantial decrease in ‘bounce rate’. Equality Insights was particularly impressed with the responsive web design and improved user experience across all devices along with the lightning-fast load times.
Significant improvements were made in the ability to search and access research, with the accessibility enhancements made by Digital Thing receiving positive feedback from users and research partners. The Equality Insights team were also impressed with the ease of managing the website and showcasing new research from partners.
