Riverina Regional Library is the largest regional public library service in New South Wales. Its website was in desperate need of a refresh so Digital Thing was engaged to develop a high-performing website that would be simple to manage internally. The site needed to provide easy access to important information and resources for a broad audience across many different communities. Digital Thing developed a custom WordPress site and delivered an intuitive user experience across devices that was commended throughout the library network and by users in the community.
The Riverina Regional Library website was designed and built by Digital Thing with a custom responsive theme using WordPress. The site was developed with accessibility in mind, incorporating keyboard navigation and unique contrasting features for the site impaired, and achieving WCAG Level AA Accessibility Conformance. Digital Thing also created a series of training videos to aid the internal team with managing the website.
An events hub was developed for the website to allow library staff to promote events and provide users with a clear and organised view of upcoming events at library branches across the region. Digital Thing also completed a custom search integration with LIBERO, the library network book database, to allow users to easily discover titles and resources from the Riverina Regional Library website.
The new Riverina Regional Library website received an overwhelmingly positive response from across the library network and users in the community. The redesigned user experience provided simpler navigation through the site, and the accessibility features enriched the experience for all members of the community.
The website has performed well in search rankings, providing library branches with page 1 ranking across the region. It has also achieved GTmetrix “A Grade” page speed for its fast loading times and overall page structure. Digital Thing continues to work closely with the Riverina Regional Library team to improve the user experience and accessibility for all members of the community.
